We are pleased to announce that one of our project partners is actively involved in the organization of Graphene2026, the International Graphene Conference taking place in Barcelona from June 30 to July 3, 2026. Graphene2026 is one of the leading international events dedicated to graphene, 2D materials, and advanced nanotechnologies, bringing together researchers, industry leaders, and innovators from around the world. The conference will provide an important platform for scientific exchange, collaboration, and discussions on the latest developments in graphene-based technologies, including quantum applications, sensors, electronics, and advanced materials. Michael Tzvetkov, a PhD student in the group of Benoît Hackens at UCL, presented a poster during the PhD Students’ Day on Friday 22nd of May 2026. His presentation showcased scanning probe measurements performed on graphene-based samples, highlighting both the experimental techniques and the rich electronic properties accessible in these systems. The poster generated fruitful discussions with students and researchers, illustrating the strong interest in nanoscale characterization of low-dimensional quantum materials.

Dima Efetov organized the international symposium International Symposium on Moiré Systems, Quantum Twisting Microscopes, and Beyond on 9 and 10 October 2025. Raphaël Ayache from CEA participated in this symposium, which brought together leading young researchers working on moiré materials, quantum microscopy, and related emerging topics.

Preden Roulleau the coordinator of FLATS was invited at La Science, CQFD which is a French podcast about Science to discuss about anyons. You can listen the podcast (in French) here.

This year again, on the occasion of the Fête de la Science, the CNRS offered unusual visits, immersions in the heart of scientific research in small groups. These meetings were intended to be intimate, interactive and integrating an exceptional character. In this context, FLATS was presented by Maelle Kepfer. This event has gathered more than 200 participants.

The yearly meeting of the FLATS consortium took place in CEA’s head office on 7th of November 2024. The morning was dedicated to presentations of the progresses of each Work Package and during the afternoon the PhD students and the post-docs made presentations of their works.

FLATS has co-organized the International Conference on Quantum sensing with the COST Action SuperQUMAP at Paris during the first week of June 2024. There was a session dedicated to Twistronics where the importance of magic angle twisted bilayer graphene as a single photon detector has been demonstrated.
