Ludwig Maximilians Universität

LMU is the leading teaching and research university in Germany, ranking 1st in Germany in the latest Times Higher Education World University Ranking. With the neighbouring Max-Planck, Helmholtz, and Technical University institutions, it can be regarded as a major European science hub. LMU is a highly successful beneficiary of the German excellence initiative, and has until now hosted more than 140 ERC grants. In the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020 LMU participated in more than 280 projects, thereof in 10 as coordinating institution. The Faculty of Physics at LMU Munich has very deliberately made it its aim to explore the physical foundations of the processes of science. With this orientation, physics at LMU Munich takes a complementary position among other institutions that foreground the applications side or technical usability. It is also part of both, the Cluster of Excellence Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST) and the Munich Quantum Valley (MQV), making LMU a leading institution in Europe in the understanding of novel and unifying concepts and the development of revolutionary quantum devices in the interdisciplinary research fields of Quantum Science and Technology.
